TCHS CALENDAR OF EVENTS - 2018

Monthly Programs are usually held at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month in the Tuolumne County Library at 480 Greenley Road, Sonora, CA.  The summer schedule varies.  The public is invited at no charge and refreshments are served.  Meetings or events held at the History Center or Museum are located at 158 Bradford St., Sonora, CA.  Cable 8 programs are broadcast on Comcast Cable TV 2nd and 4th Fridays at 8:30-9:30pm and present the previous month's program that was presented at the Library.  If no previous month's program was presented, Cable 8 will broadcast an earlier Monthly program. The TCHS BOD meets once a month on the 2nd Wednesday at 1:00pm in the History Center. For more information or questions please email us

62nd Annual Lamplight Dinner – Sonora Elks Lodge.  Social hour 5:30 PM.  Dinner hour 6:30 PM.  Program keynote speaker will feature a Historical Reading of Prentice Mulford's "The Jimtown of 1860" by Don Bilotti.  Dinner reservations are necessary.

Smithsonian Hosted Museum Day at the Tuolumne County Museum , 158 Bradford St., Sonora. Saturday Sept. 22, 2018  Time 9 AM to 4PM. The Theme is Law and Order: Then and Now. There will be tours of the museum and the  Sheriff will have displays of their Bear Cat, Drones, and Police Dogs.  

The Second  TCHS  Historic Geocaching event will begin at 8AM Saturday Sept 22, 2018 at the museum  and includes new Historic Stops for Kids and Adults. (You will have to check with Betty and Fran for more information as I have not been involved with the planning etc. I think Betty was working on a flyer/poster so maybe she can get you a copy.)

There will also be  a surplus sale in the courtyard of duplicate books and items on Sept 22. 

 

OCTOBER 2018

OCTOBER - 2, 4, 9, 11

8:30-Noon

The Historic 4th grade Sonora Walking tour will take place October 2nd,4th, 9th, and 11th. This annual  projects requires about  30 volunteers to make it run smoothly. We start about 8:40AM at the Opera Hall with and orientation session, divide into 3 groups  (about 20-30 students each) that will cover the Sonora historic places going up to the Red Chruch, over to the Museum on Bradford, then back down to the Opera Hall by noon. We encourage you to participate as there are venues that do not require walking. If interested in volunteering or need more information contact Linda Clark (586-1577,  hardlucklin@mlode.com)  or Sandy Fisher (532-3306,  fisher@goldrush.com). A pre tour orientation meeting will be held late September date to be announced.

Note Date Change.  Important Meeting regarding By-Laws.

October 20th October 20th will be a different museum program (? not sure of the name yet… check with Fran  "Tomstone trails in the City Cemetary") It will begin at dusk with a tour of the Old City Cemetary cost is $25 and limited tickets will be sold. I understand there are some very unique individuals lurking around the graves and tomstone with tall tails to spin. 
OCTOBER  20 Oct 20th will be a very busy day all around Sonora, the last farmers market will end with the second City Walking Tour for adults. Contact person for the city is Sheala Wilkinson (532-7725).

Annual business meeting at theTuolumne County Library on Greenley Road, onDecember 13th, at 7:00 p.m.It is important that you attend this meeting so we have a quorum to vote for our 2019 slate of officers and directors and pass the budget. Please join the board in celebrating good cheer during the holidays with cookies and refreshments.
